Manchester United agrees deal to sign Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro

Premier League side Manchester United announced that it had reached an in-principle agreement for the signing of midfielder Casemiro from Spanish champion Real Madrid.

The announcement comes after Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti said on Friday that the Brazilian midfielder intends to join Manchester United.

“The deal is subject to the agreement of personal terms, UK visa requirements and a medical,” Manchester United said in a statement.

The Brazilian international, who joined the Madrid-based side from Sao Paoulo in 2013, was an integral part of the Los Blancos, for the better part of last decade. He won five Champions Leagues and three La Liga title during his stint in Madrid.

The defensive midfielder formed an illustrious partnership with Toni Kroos and Luka Modric as the trio helped Real Madrid dominate European football.

Casemiro, who scored 31 goals in 336 appearances for Real Madrid, will reinforce the midfield of Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United. The Red Devils has began its season in horrid fashion, including a 4-0 thumping at the hands of Brentford.

The defensive midfielder is the Red Devils’ fourth signing under the new manager Erik Ten Hag. The club has already acquired the services of Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia, and  Lisandro Martinez this summer.
