Spanish tennis stalwart and winner of 22 grand slam singles titles, Rafael Nadal is likely to compete in the North American hard-court swing, including the Canadian Open, as he has made his hotel reservations for the event which runs from August 8-14.

Nadal had aggravated an abdominal injury during his Wimbledon last-eight win over Taylor Fritz of the US and withdrawn from his semifinal clash against Australia’s Nick Kyrgios.

While experts felt the 36-year-old might be forced to skip the last grand slam of the year, the US Open, Nadal has revealed he should recover completely in 3-4 weeks to carry on with a “normal calendar” after that.

Canadian Open tournament director Eugene Lapierre has confirmed the Spaniard, who has won the opening two grand slams of the year — Australian and French Open — is expected to play in the ATP Masters 1000 event, according to a report in Tennis365.

“He’s made hotel reservations and he has asked us to send him a case of the balls we’re using for the tournament,” Lapierre said. “He should return to training.”
